3/17-???: Thailand (Under Construction!)
Thailand was one of my hubs for traveling SE Asia in the region. From Laos, I came down to Chiang Mai/Pai and returned later to the southern Thailand beaches in May to escape the Myanmar heat. My adventures are not quite done as I'll hopefully be heading over to Koh Chang hopefully soon!
Highlights:
- Mango sticky rice. Top 10 foods of my life.
- Getting a Thai massage by a Thai prisoner while hearing Chris' ticklish giggles occasionally next to me
- I've mastered Thai cooking skills. Not really, but I took a cooking class and kind of remember how to cook Pad Thai?
- 3 day silent Buddhist meditation retreat has got me hooked on meditation
- Motorcycling around Pai, I really want a motorcycle now
- Pai's streetfood scene is on point- hit the spot for my burrito craving.
- Mind-exploding sunsets in Koh Lanta with Chang beers
- Low season = 50% off accommodation in Koh Lanta
- Finished my Advanced Open Water certification. Hello legal 30M+ dives!
- Met my travel inspiration- a dude who's been backpacking for 7 years with his only possessions being a razr scooter, tarp & mosquito net
- Saw some incredible underwater life - leopard sharks, octopi mating & assorted fish for days
Lowlights:
- A sewage smelling hostel. Worst hostel experience of my life. My mind has blocked out the name because it was so terrible - ask me if you're going to Chiang Mai!
- Bed bugs in Chiang Mai hostel (different hostel from above)
- It's odd, even though bed bugs might not be in your stuff, it will psychologically destroy you.
- Burning season sucks. Everyday was muggy and overcast :(
- The head from Myanmar followed us to Thailand
- I understand why they call it rainy season. Those monsoons were no joke.
